The tour ended with some final birding in the forest patches on the road south of Ayampe, where we still managed to cram in some last few birds, such as Olivaceous Piculet and Red-faced Spinetails, two birds at the very southern edges of their ranges there. We also bumped into another tiny male Esmeraldas Woodstar. However, the final big addition to our trip list of over 500 species from our seventeen day circuit of the south was a magic Ochraceous Attila calling vociferously from a wooded patch. A final lifer for the group and for me too, fantastic.
