Touched by Tanagers...ECUADOR (21 Feb)

While shooting such beauties as Flame-faced and Black-chinned Mountain-Tanagers a worrying bang on the window revealed this Blue-winged Mountain-Tanager looking a little dazed on the floor below. I picked it up and soon enough, thankfully, this chunky Andean tanager perked up and went on his way again, as if nothing had happened! Thanks to Raja for sending in this great photo that captured a unique moment for me: holding a Blue-winged Mountain-Tanager. All in all a strange month for me in Ecuador: stroked a Swallow-tailed Nightjar and cradled a Blue-winged Mountain-Tanager. What next?...

Currently in Santiago, just about to board a plan south to Argentina for few days at the "end of the world" in Ushuaia before I board my very first Antarctic Cruise...very excited

Some very different photos from Argentina to come soon...

Bon Voyage Sam!
A friend of mine went to Antarctica in January and he had some amazing photos.

Nice shot except for the terrible background!

How fortunate for this beautiful Tanager. We often get window hits and I will hold them for a couple of minutes and then release them. Most times that is all that it takes.
